About the Fragrance
"No5 is a perfect example of a fragrance that becomes more intriguing as time passes. Each year adds to its charm, its mystery, its depth." -Jacques Polge, the exclusive CHANEL master perfumer since 1978.
1917 Ernst Beaux set up shop at La Bocca near Grasse, the birthplace of French perfumery. It was at this laboratory that Mademoiselle Chanel met him amidst flasks of concoctions in the making. Gabrielle Chanel simply described her ideal fragrance in very few words "a woman's fragrance should smell like a woman." But we know our darling Coco, there were many other details to follow. The fragrance should resemble her, smell fabulous, be light yet memorable. "I want to give women an artificial fragrance. I say artificial because it will be fabricated. I want a fragrance that is composed." - Coco Chanel. Composed? What a visionary.
After four years the 5th sample presented to Gabrielle amongst several others by Ernest was the one she chose. In very large quantity dear Coco added to his composition, the world's most luxurious natural-perfume raw materials, Grasse Jasmine.
Today, No5 has evolved in 5 directions. At the heart still of each interpretation is the concentration of May Rose, Aldehydes and Grasse Jasmine. All 5 compositions are individual but still thread a very feminine classic fragrance to the core of a woman.
So darlings you've waited long enough, What are the 5 ways?
